Nice to meet ya, I’m Cameron.
Thanks for stopping by to see my artwork! Since you’re on the About page, here’s a bit about me:
I am 38 years old, Dad of the world’s best family, and I’m an artist. I also have a regular job as a product manager for a local manufacturing company, and I graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in engineering. I’m honestly very proud of those things.
I grew up in southeast Kansas where the Flint Hills and Ozarks transition into each other; our house was tucked into a forested hillside that sloped down to the Verdigris River. It’s beautiful there, if you ask me. Most of my days were spent outside when I was a kid, and out in those woods I planted countless seeds of Respect and Admiration for Mother Nature. That connection with the world runs deep and plays a big part in why I paint, and what I feel compelled to paint too.
It wasn’t until around 13 years ago that I started painting seriously, after graduating and some time in the workforce. My father nudged me to try painting a few years before that, and he even got me setup with some supplies to get started. My dad was an artist, so he already had the stuff and showed me the basics. He was always supportive but mostly let me do my own thing, which was really great, actually.
I committed myself to spending more time painting and being more consistent. I began reading books, using loads of online resources, and over the course of thousands of hours working at it, I started getting somewhere and I was proud of my paintings— it was a lifestyle shift that has propelled me to being a better, happier, more confident person, and it has certainly brought the best people into my life.
In 2017 I was hired for my first commission piece, a larger 36” x 48” depiction of a local bridge, and I have kept busy since. I enjoy painting representational art, something resembling reality, but reconstructed on my canvas with pigment so others can see not what I saw, but how I saw it. It’s like bottling up a memory and sharing it with those who connect with our painting. I have won several awards (including best of show and peoples’ choice awards) in the Verdigris Valley Art Exhibit, a regional Southeast Kansas exhibit. My artwork is displayed in a number of businesses and homes of satisfied customers.
